I’m back for a second post- always a good sign! Starting down the road to blogging means deciding what I’ll write here, and when, and all that jazz. I’ve had other blogging projects in the past and I know from that past experience that setting a schedule and sticking to it is half the battle! Of course, it’s the first half, but you know what I mean!
Anyway, this post is a taste of what kinds of good stuff you can expect to read here at Special Ed Safari, and doubles as my goals in other areas as well! I think the best way to stick to a blogging schedule is to have some ideas for posts queued up, rather than try to think of something off the top of your head when it’s time to write.
With that said, here are some things to look forward to here at Special Ed Safari:
Lifelines for New Teachers– just like the blog catchphrase says, it’s a jungle out there! Especially in special education, accessing a good support team can make the difference between successful experiences as a new teacher and stress and feelings of failure. Here you’ll find tips, strategies and insights to provide some support as you search out mentoring and supports in your buildings, school districts, and teams.
Virginia Alternate Assessment Program Support– Who doesn’t love VAAP? If you teach students with significant disabilities in Virginia in grades 3 and up, you’ve no doubt come to have a deep, abiding relationship with your binders and your evidence. And yet, have strategies to break down those complex concepts, particularly in the upper grades, so that they are accessible to your students and of high enough quality and rigor for inclusion in the assessment is tricky! I’ll share tips, tricks, and insight into the standards to help make the task a little more manageable.
By the way, one of the focuses of my blossoming store on Teachers Pay Teachers is sample VAAP evidence! I’ll be sharing new product announcements here, like this beauty:
Head on over to the Special Ed Safari TpT store and check out the freebie above. It’s ready made evidence for that standard or for anyone who’s practicing comparing fractions, with easy differentiation options included!
Connecting Research to Practice– #NerdAlert! As a Board Certified Behavior Analyst, one of my favorite things to do is talk about the science of behavior analysis and share strategies with others, and one of my favorite ways to do that is to talk about research! JABA, JEAB, The Behavior Analyst- I read it all, and I want to share it with people here!
I think it’s a good sign when naming the goals of the blog gets me all excited, and I’m definitely excited now! I’m looking forward to great connections with others who are out there in the world of special ed and beyond.
